ശ്രീ എം കൃഷ്ണന്‍ നായര്‍ മുപ്പത്തിയാറു വര്‍ഷത്തോളം തുടര്‍ച്ചയായി എഴുതിയ (1969 മുതല്‍ മരണത്തിനു ഒരാഴ്ച്ച മുന്‍പു വരെ) സാഹിത്യവാരഫലം ഒരുപക്ഷേ ലോകത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ കാലം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച സാഹിത്യപംക്തി ആയിരിക്കും. മലയാളനാട് വാരികയില്‍ എഴുതിത്തുടങ്ങിയ തന്റെ പംക്തി, വാരിക നിന്നുപോയതിനു ശേഷം കലാകൗമുദി ആഴ്ചപ്പതിപ്പിലും അതിനു ശേഷം സമകാലിക മലയാളം വാരികയിലും പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. സാഹിത്യ വിമര്‍ശനത്തില്‍ കര്‍ശനമായ മാനദണ്ഡങ്ങള്‍ അവലംബിച്ച ശ്രീ കൃഷ്ണന്‍ നായര്‍, കലാപരമായി ഔന്നത്യമുള്ള രചനകള്‍ മാത്രമാണ് സാഹിത്യമെന്നും മറ്റെല്ലാം വ്യര്‍ത്ഥവ്യായാമങ്ങളാണെന്നും ഉറച്ചു വിശ്വസിച്ചു. സ്വന്തം ലേഖനങ്ങളെപ്പോലും ‘സാഹിത്യ പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തിന്റെയും ഏഷണിയുടെയും ഒരു അവിയല്‍’ എന്നു വിശേഷിപ്പിച്ച അദ്ദേഹം അനുബന്ധമായി, ‘അതുകൊണ്ടാണല്ലൊ, ചുമട്ടുതൊഴിലാളികള്‍വരെയും 35 വര്‍ഷമായി സാഹിത്യ വാരഫലം വായിക്കുന്നത്’ എന്നും കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു. രസകരമായ രചനാശൈലിയും കുറിക്കു കൊള്ളുന്ന നര്‍മവും മലയാളികളുടെ ജീവിത ശൈലിയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള നിശിതവും ഹാസ്യാത്മകവുമായ നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങളും സാഹിത്യ വാരഫലത്തെ വായനക്കാര്‍ക്കു പ്രിയങ്കരമാക്കി. 2006-ല്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ നിര്യാണത്തോടുകൂടി, സാഹിത്യവാരഫലം പിന്തുടര്‍ച്ചക്കാരില്ലാതെ അന്യം നിന്നുപോയി. ഗൃഹാതുരത്വം ഉണര്‍ത്തുന്ന വായന സമ്മാനിയ്ക്കുന്ന, ഇതുവരെ പ്രസിദ്ധീകൃതമായ വാരഫലം എന്‍ട്രി നടക്കുന്ന മുറയ്ക്ക് സായാഹ്ന പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കും. കലാകൗമുദി എണ്ണൂറാം ലക്കത്തില്‍ വന്ന വാരഫലം ഇവിടെ വായിക്കുക.
കെ വേലപ്പന്‍ ഒരു പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തകനും സിനിമാനിരൂപകനുമായിരുന്നു.
തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തിനടുത്തുള്ള ഉച്ചക്കടയില്‍ ഓമന–കൃഷ്ണന്‍ നായര്‍ ദമ്പതിമാരുടെ സീമന്തപുത്രനായി വേലപ്പന്‍ ജനിച്ചു. ഭാഷാശാസ്ത്രത്തില്‍ എം.എ. ബിരുദം നേടിയ ശേഷം ഒരു ചെറിയ കാലം കേരള സര്‍വ്വകലാശാല ഓഫീസില്‍ ഗുമസ്തനായി ജോലി നോക്കി. കലാകൗമുദി വാരികയില്‍ ലേഖനങ്ങളെഴുതിയാണ് പത്രപ്രവര്‍ത്തനരംഗത്ത് പ്രവേശിക്കുന്നത്. 1984-ല്‍ കലാകൗമുദി വാരികയില്‍ സ്ഥിരം ജീവക്കാരനായി ചേര്‍ന്നു. 1985-ല്‍ റോസമ്മയെ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചു. വേലപ്പന്റെ ഗാര്‍ഹിക–സാമൂഹ്യാന്തരീക്ഷത്തില്‍ ചെറിയ തോതിലെങ്കിലും ഈ വിവാഹം ഒച്ചപ്പാടുണ്ടാക്കി. വിഭിന്ന മതസ്ഥരായിരുന്നുവെന്നത് കൂടാതെ, ശിരോവസ്ത്രം ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച കന്യാസ്ത്രീ ആയിരുന്നു, റോസമ്മ. റോസമ്മ–വേലപ്പന്‍ ദമ്പതിമാര്‍ക്ക് ഒരു മകനുണ്ട്, അപു. സത്യജിത് റേയുടെ അപു സിനിമാത്രയത്തിലെ പ്രധാനകഥാപാത്രത്തിന്റെ ഓര്‍മ്മയ്ക്കാണ് മകന് അപുവെന്ന് പേരിട്ടത്. ആസ്ത്മാ രോഗിയായിരുന്ന വേലപ്പന്‍ 1992 ജൂലൈ 15-ന് ഹൃദയാഘാതം മൂലം മരണമടഞ്ഞു.
മരണാനന്തരം വേലപ്പന്റെ ചലച്ചിത്രലേഖനങ്ങളെല്ലാം സമാഹരിച്ച് സിനിമയും സമൂഹവും എന്ന പേരില്‍ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ചു. ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിന് 1994-ലെ മികച്ച ചലച്ചിത്രകൃതിക്കുള്ള കേരളസംസ്ഥാന ഫിലിം അവാര്‍ഡും ഫിലിം ക്രിട്ടിക് അവാര്‍ഡും കിട്ടുകയുണ്ടായി. വയനാട്ടിലെ ഗോത്രവര്‍ഗ്ഗങ്ങള്‍ സംസാരിക്കുന്ന ഭാഷയെക്കുറിച്ച് എഴുതിയ ആദിവാസികളും ആദിവാസി ഭാഷകളും എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിന് 1994-ല്‍ കേരളസാഹിത്യ അക്കാദമി അവാര്‍ഡ് ലഭിച്ചു.
